Pool Rules - Rules to know before using Parks swimming pools.

Know Before You Go

What to Bring Make sure you have a sturdy combination lock when you head out to the pool. It will keep your valuables safe, and let you hit the water feeling more secure about your belongings.

What Not to Bring

You’ll need to leave food, glass bottles, electronic devices, and newspapers at home. Unbound periodicals tend to blow around and create litter, food can be messy to clean up after, and there’s too much water around to make sure your electronics stay safe. Just to be on the safe side, we also recommend leaving valuables like jewelry and credit cards at home.

What to Wear

You’ll need to have a swimsuit to enter the pool area. We may choose to check men’s shorts for a lining if we can’t tell if they are wearing a bathing suit. Feel the need to cover up from the sun? Throw on a plain white shirt or white hat and you’re set. We don’t allow shirts with colors on them on the deck.

Swimming Programs

Learn about Parks’ free swimming programs for tots, children, teens, and adults.
Call Parks’ Citywide Aquatics at (718) 760-6969 for more information.

See you on the Shore!

Each year, the New York City Department of Transportation partners with community groups to present Weekend Walks – neighborhood events on multi-block stretches of commercial streets temporarily closed to vehicles and opened to walking and other activities. These multi-day events take place in all five boroughs from May through October.
Local merchants' associations, community groups, and business improvement districts host Weekend Walks as a fun way to highlight local businesses and cultural institutions. They create wonderful opportunities for New Yorkers to gather, see their neighborhoods in a new way, and relax on weekends.

Please note: minor children (anyone under the age of 18) must be accompanied by a supervising adult.
Here are the dates for March:

March 29 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, meet behind the Field House
Check here and our Facebook page for upcoming dates!
Please travel lightly, wear work clothes and shoes (no open toes) (layers for weather) and bring water. Thanks for your passion for Astoria Park!

'Pleased to report about the fantastic clean-up completed in Astoria Park with the assistance of the Green Teens out of the ARROW Recreation Center. The Astoria Park Alliance hosted 9 green teens, 6 of whom were completing their very first project. Along with the regular volunteer group all participants were able to accumulate up 90+ bags of leaves along the park. The Green Teens received fantastic reviews for their bagging enthusiasm, ability to follow instructions and overall fantastic attitude on what weather wise was a dreary day. Thank you...'

    10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

    Astoria Park, Queens
    NYCgovparks.org/highlights/festivals/mulchfest

Bring your holiday tree to a designated city park to be recycled into mulch
that will nourish plantings across the city!

    Drop Off Locations
Or you can bring your tree to a drop-off site from Saturday, January 4 through Sunday, January 12. Leave your tree with us, and we’ll recycle it for you later

The NYC Department of Sanitation will also be conducting special curbside collections for mulching and recycling of Christmas trees from Monday, December 30, 2013 through Wednesday, January 15, 2014.

Remember to remove all lights, ornaments, stands, and plastic bags from your tree before setting it out at the curb for composting collection.

Join the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation
the New York City Department of Sanitation , and GreeNYC to recycle your Christmas trees into wood chips. These wood chips are used to nourish trees and plants on streets and gardens citywide. Or, take home your very own bag of mulch to use in your backyard or to make a winter bed for a street tree
More than 24,000 trees were recycled last year.
    Help us top this number!

    What to Bring
Please remember to remove all lights and ornaments before bringing the tree
to a MulchFest site. Biodegradable bags will be provided if you wish to take
    some free mulch home.
