New York Weekend Walks 2014 [nyc.gov] Shore Fest at Astoria Park

Astoria Park Shore Fest

www.nyc.gov //dot/ weekendwalks

ShoreFest at Astoria Park is another great reason to love the neighborhood! Take part in a variety of family-friendly activities on Sundays in August when Shore Boulevard along the East River is closed to vehicle traffic. All activities will take place on Shore Boulevard and in Astoria Park between the bridges.

ShoreFest, a partnership with Summer Streets, is made possible by the Department of Transportation, Astoria Park Alliance and local organizations. This annual celebration encourages New Yorkers to re-imagine public space.

August 3rd – We Like to Move It!
Stretch, bend, move and learn during free classes along the boulevard. Enjoy physical fitness activities, games and plenty of fun for all ages with the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop.

August 10th – Tastes of Astoria
Exercise your taste buds during this showcase of Astoria’s culinary delights! Come out to feast on local flavors from the neighborhood and learn about healthy, sustainable food practices.

August 17th – Make Shore BoulevART!
Work out your imagination and display your creativity on Shore Boulevard! Join us to paint, play music, dance and much more. Let the river inspire you, while taking in amazing views of the city.

Interested in being a part of ShoreFest? Please contact the Astoria Park Alliance on Facebook or at

See you on the Shore!

Each year, the New York City Department of Transportation partners with community groups to present Weekend Walks – neighborhood events on multi-block stretches of commercial streets temporarily closed to vehicles and opened to walking and other activities. These multi-day events take place in all five boroughs from May through October.
Local merchants' associations, community groups, and business improvement districts host Weekend Walks as a fun way to highlight local businesses and cultural institutions. They create wonderful opportunities for New Yorkers to gather, see their neighborhoods in a new way, and relax on weekends.

One of the goals of increased community involvement
in the planning and execution of Shore Fest is being
realized this year with the inclusion of
additional community partners.

This is an important  milestone in the growth of
Shore Fest as a  community building project and
in the creation of stakeholders in re-imagining the
use of Shore Boulevard.

This year, two of the communities brightest stars,

We Heart Astoria and Build It Green, will bring their unique sensibilities to the event.
August 4th is We Heart Astoria Food FestAugust 11 is Build it Green Day.
They join valued partners the NY City Parks and Recreation Department
and Green Shores NYC. Shore Fest is an NYC Dept. of Transportation
 Sponsored Temporary Pedestrian Street.

Shore Fest continues to evolve as a showcase for the potential of Shore Boulevard as a
multi-use public space. Shore Fest is a place to meet new people, enjoy old friends, and
carve a river of life out of a car-filled street.
