NEW YORK CARES DAY SPRING

Join New York Cares in April , when 4,000 volunteers get to work cleaning up parks,
community gardens, and public spaces throughout the city.

Take part in New York City's biggest spring cleaning event by joining more than 4,000 volunteers as we get our hands dirty in parks, community gardens, and public spaces throughout the city. Each spring, volunteers spend one Saturday removing invasive species, picking up litter, repainting benches, planting, and clearing out old growth from our urban green spaces. ...
Become a Team Leader by creating a team of 5 to 50 people, and then encouraging your friends, family, co-workers, or anyone else to join that team. Team Leaders will be able to select their sites in February.
New York Cares Day Spring will take place on Saturday, April 12th. Registration for individuals to participate in New York Cares Day Spring opens in February.

According to a recent study in Preventive Medicine, parks are America’s preferred destination for breaking a sweat; for people who live nearby, they're the place where 50 percent of vigorous exercise occurs.

NYCgovParks.org : Groundhog Day in Parks

NYCgovParks.org :  Groundhog Day in Parks

The general idea behind groundhog weather prognostication is simple: if the groundhog sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of wintry weather and if not, spring will come sooner rather than later. Groundhog Day originates from the folk belief in the predictive powers of the late–winter emergence of hibernating creatures, and the Pennsylvania Dutch are believed to have brought the tradition to America in the 18th century.

Groundhogs are rodents, like mice and rats, but are also related to other rodents such as chipmunks and squirrels. ...
