ShoreFest at Astoria Park is another great reason to love the neighborhood! Take part in a variety of family-friendly activities on Sundays in August when Shore Boulevard along the East River is closed to vehicle traffic. All activities will take place on Shore Boulevard and in Astoria Park between the bridges.

ShoreFest, a partnership with Summer Streets, is made possible by the Department of Transportation, Astoria Park Alliance and local organizations. This annual celebration encourages New Yorkers to re-imagine public space.

August 3rd – We Like to Move It!
Stretch, bend, move and learn during free classes along the boulevard. Enjoy physical fitness activities, games and plenty of fun for all ages with the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop.

Volunteer at Astoria Park Shore Fest - Morning Shift

Help out at the Astoria Park Shore Fest! Assist staff with setup, help participants find tables, move DOT street plaza furniture and unload materials.

Each year, the New York City Department of Transportation partners with community groups to present Weekend Walks – neighborhood events on multi-block stretches of commercial streets temporarily closed to vehicles and opened to walking and other activities. These multi-day events take place in all five boroughs from May through October.
Local merchants' associations, community groups, and business improvement districts host Weekend Walks as a fun way to highlight local businesses and cultural institutions. They create wonderful opportunities for New Yorkers to gather, see their neighborhoods in a new way, and relax on weekends.

Outdoor pool hours are free and open to the public from 11:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m., with a break for pool cleaning between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Early morning and late night adult lap swim  hours are also available at select locations. The outdoor pool season begins end of June   and ends Labor Day, September 1.

Know Before You Go

What to Bring Make sure you have a sturdy combination lock when you head out to the pool. It will keep your valuables safe, and let you hit the water feeling more secure about your belongings.

What Not to Bring

You’ll need to leave food, glass bottles, electronic devices, and newspapers at home. Unbound periodicals tend to blow around and create litter, food can be messy to clean up after, and there’s too much water around to make sure your electronics stay safe. Just to be on the safe side, we also recommend leaving valuables like jewelry and credit cards at home.

 What to Wear

You’ll need to have a swimsuit to enter the pool area. We may choose to check men’s shorts for a lining if we can’t tell if they are wearing a bathing suit. Feel the need to cover up from the sun? Throw on a plain white shirt or white hat and you’re set. We don’t allow shirts with colors on them on the deck.

    For everybody’s health, safety, and protection,  guests are  to observe the following rules:
  • Bathing suits must be worn on the deck and in the water. Men’s bathing suits must have mesh linings. Hats may be worn on the deck for sun protection but are not allowed in the water. Plain white T-shirts may be worn over bathing suits if desired. Sneakers are not permitted. Rubber flip flops or water shoes are permitted.
  • No urinating or defecating in the pools.
  • Children under 16 must be at least eight inches taller than the maximum water depth to enter the pool without adult supervision. Specific height requirements are posted at every pool.
  • No person will be permitted in the pool having: skin lesions, sores, or inflamed eyes, mouth, nose, or ear discharge, carrying communicable disease or having any type of bandage, adhesive tape, etc., on their body.
  • All bathers must take a shower in the locker room before entering the pool.
  • Patrons must provide and use their own padlock. No responsibility is assumed for lost articles. A standard master or combination lock is recommended. Small luggage locks are not permitted.
  • The use of swimming aids, water toys, and flotation devices is prohibited.
  • Electronic equipment, including radios, cameras, and cellular phones, is not allowed on pool deck.
  • Eating or drinking is permitted only in designated areas. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
  • Beach chairs, baby strollers, bags, blankets, or beach balls are not permitted on the pool deck. We will make our best effort to secure strollers.
  • Follow the directives of lifeguards, Parks staff, and the police.
  • Ball playing, running, jumping, using profane language or other forms of disruptive and disorderly behavior are prohibited.
  • No diving, except in designated areas.
  • No smoking, pets, or glass bottles permitted.
  • Books and bound periodicals are permitted on the pool deck. Newspapers are not.

Registration Process

Lap Swimming

Online registration will be conducted starting at 4:00 a.m. on Friday, June 13 through Friday, August 28.
All participants must complete an online registration form. A season admission card will be issued to online applicants on the first day they participate in the program. All participants must check their admission card at the pool entrance each day. If the card is lost or stolen a replacement shall be issued. All swimmers must have a card to gain admission to the program. There is no charge.

APA Volunteer Days are an expansion of our already great partnership with NY Cares and in response to the large amount of requests we get from the public to volunteer in Astoria Park. Volunteer opportunities average twice a month, March through November.

The Astoria Park Alliance works closely with Park Managers to identify need, plan work projects, and facilitate volunteers on the ground.
