Central Astoria’s Annual Independence Celebration 
will be held on Tuesday, June 30. 

This annual event draws thousands of people to beautiful Astoria Park.

We are proud to announce that the West Point Concert Band, who have performed at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and Avery Fisher Hall among other world class venues, will perform.  The band is the Army’s oldest musical organization and we are honored that they have chosen to perform in Astoria Park for the Independence Celebration, a most fitting event for this great band from the US Military Academy. 
The performance starts at 7:30PM and will be followed by a fireworks display by Grucci.  
The event is possible with funding provided by Council Member Costa Constantinides, support from Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, and in part by public funds from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and our corporate sponsors 
NRG, Kaufman Astoria Studios, Astoria Bank, Atlantic Bank, Mt. Sinai Queens, 
Thomas M. Quinn Funeral Home, Quontic Bank, and Greiner Maltz.

Volunteers did such a brilliant job beautifying the park. We couldn't do it without them! Thank you to everyone who came out to volunteer with Astoria Park Alliance. The results are beautiful.



We thank our #volunteers and NewYorkCares for the regular efforts to revitalize
Astoria Park, our green space heart.  <3  This of course is in addition to the
much needed care done by the NYCParks and staff. We appreciate the gardening,
weeding, debris removal, mulching, bench painting, and many other park activities
done for love of the environment and of the community.

Our cheers to each and all!

Getting Started

Start giving back in your community and make a difference.

STEP 1: CREATE AN ONLINE ACCOUNT
Get started by setting up your own New York Cares account. You will be able to use
this account to register for volunteer opportunities, view your upcoming projects, and
evaluate ones that you've already done!

STEP 2: ATTEND ORIENTATION
You can then learn more at your New York Cares orientation. We run dozens of orientations
every month throughout the city. At orientation, you'll learn how we work and what you
can do as a volunteer.

STEP 3: SIGN UP FOR A PROJECT










After you've been to orientation, you can get started signing up for projects.
Search online and find the best project for you!

PLEASE NOTE: You must be at least 18 years old to participate in New York Cares year-round volunteering.

Summer is officially here!  There are so many things you can do in Astoria Park.

 Community Voice Meeting
Tuesday July 7th  7-8:30 pm, Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden
Our monthly community meetings exist for you to learn about what is happening in Astoria Park and to make your voice heard! We cover planned agenda items, updates, and leave time for open discussion about other topics.
 


Our monthly meetings are the best way to stay in the know about Astoria Park happenings. We cover upcoming events, advocacy topics, and other important updates for the community.

Shoreline Cleanup this Saturday
Saturday June 27 , 12pm-3pm

This week we will be partnering with GreenShores NYC to give the shoreline along Astoria Park some TLC! This is your opportunity to hop over the wall and cleanup your shore.

We will meet South of the War Memorial before heading to the work area(s).

Astoria Park Alliance will provide gloves and all necessary equipment. Please arrive comfortably, in clothing suitable for outdoor work (sturdy closed toe shoes). Bring water, stay hydrated!

We meet behind the Field House (near the tennis courts) at 10am. Since our work is weather-dependent, please stay tuned for updates. The work typically involves painting, raking, planting, and is suitable for all ages. Astoria Park Alliance will provide gloves and all necessary equipment. Please arrive comfortably, in clothing suitable for outdoor work (and possible painting).
