The New York City Council seeks more thorough reporting on how private conservancies help the public park system thrive. We've made the case for more data sharing and data analysis, across conservancy-aided parks and other parks, to get at the true cost of making parks surpass expectations. Tupper Thomas gave this testimony on the issue at a January 29 hearing.

'The city would need to partner in this reporting, by providing similar numbers on its spending in each park. This would help clarify what it takes to fund operations and programming, as well as what would be necessary to keep all parks as well-maintained as the ones we are looking at today.'

Queens Community Board 1 covers all of Astoria, parts of Long Island City, and Woodside, Queens. Our boundaries are: North – East River, Bowery Bay, East – 81st Street, Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, South – Queens Plaza No., Northern Boulevard, LIRR Tracks and West – East River.

The purpose of each New York City Community Board is to encourage and facilitate the participation of citizens within City government within their communities, and the efficient and effective organization of agencies that deliver municipal services in local communities and boroughs.

Our waterfront area provides the very best views of the City’s skyline,

especially Astoria Park’s Shore Boulevard.

Community Board 1 holds its regularly scheduled, full Board, meetings on the third Tuesday of each month at the Astoria World Manor,

25-22 Astoria Boulevard, 7 P.M. (On occasion time may vary, please check agenda.)

and our member organizations!

Not only is it a New Year but, it is also

our 10th birthday!

In January 2005, a group of concerned community members and community organizations were brought together by Parternships for Parks Catalyst Project to join forces and collectively advocate and care for the Queens East River Waterfront.

Ten years later, Green Shores NYC is still growing and our work continues for a greener, cleaner, more connected and accessible shoreline!

Stay tuned for information about our 2015 calendar of events, details about our birthday party and other news.
