TYR has been bringing yoga into the great outdoors for the past 5 years, and this year is better than ever! Gantry Plaza State Park & Astoria Park provide an inspiring Manhattan backdrop as we flow through energizing vinyasas to the breeze of the river.
This is a fun (and FREE!) seasonal opportunity to bring your yoga practice to the outdoors and enjoy the beauty of the city. These special events happen once per month during the warm season, so grab your friends and bring a mat, comfy clothes, and the desire to move smile & shine in the open air. Beginners welcome!

blue skies with some truly gifted instructors!
The Astoria Park Allianceworks closely with Park Managers to identify need, plan work projects, and facilitate volunteers on the ground. Please email us here at GetInvolved @ AstoriaParkAlliance.org or message us on Facebook if you are interested in volunteering. Please note: minor children (12+ ) must be accompanied by a supervising adult.
Charybdis Playground. Starting at 10:30am, children can create postcards to send to Pearl the Squirrel about "what they would like to see in their playground".
We will also ask adults for input because it's your park too.
Other activities will include a Nature Scavenger Hunt and flower plantings near the playground.

APA Volunteer Corps days are an expansion of our already great partnership with NYCares and in response to the large amount of requests we get from the public to volunteer in Astoria Park. Volunteer opportunities average twice a month, March through November. Thank you for wanting to make a difference!
Please remember to remove all lights, ornaments, and netting before bringing the tree to a MulchFest site. Bags will be provided if you wish to take some free mulch home. Mulch is available at the sites marked.
Join the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, the New York City Department of Sanitation, and GreeNYC to recycle your Christmas trees into wood chips. These wood chips are used to nourish trees and plants on streets and gardens citywide. Or, take home your very own bag of mulch to use in your backyard or to make a winter bed for a street tree. More than 30,000 trees were recycled last year. Help us top this number!
This weekend, January 10 & 11 from 10am to 2pm, drop off your holiday tree in the Astoria Park parking lot. All trees will be chipped into mulch, which will be used in NYC's parks. Community members are also welcome to stop by and take home mulch for your own use.
A gracious thank you to Bohemian Beer Garden for donating hot chocolate to be served from approximately 12:30-2pm on both MulchFest days.

NYC Parks Celebrates Another Year Of Recycling Christmas Trees At Mulchfest 2015

Trees collected at MulchFest will nourish parks and gardens across the city.
New Yorkers recently celebrated the 19th annual MulchFest by recycling their Christmas trees at over 80 locations across the city. NYC Parks, partnering with the Department of Sanitation, GreeNYC, and numerous community organizations, provides New Yorkers with the opportunity to sustainably recycle their trees. Participants were also invited to take a free bag of mulch home.
Rather than turning Christmas trees into trash, New Yorkers were provided the opportunity to act sustainably and mulch their trees into wood chips. This year's MulchFest recycled nearly 30,000 trees.
Not only will NYC Parks be counting recycled trees, this year we'll also be launching our Trees Count! 2015 tree census to count every street tree on every city block. For more information on how you can volunteer, visit www.nyc.gov/parks/treescount or call 311
